Primary School Graduation Ceremony
Posted 07/04/2020 09:00AM

In the summer of 2020, we finally had the graduation ceremony after experiencing the unprecedented remote learning program and the shortest semester in our history which makes it such a unique memory for us. From June 30 to July 1, grade five students of SCLS primary school had a special graduation ceremony in their own classrooms.

On the day of the graduation ceremony, the classroom that students were familiar with suddenly changed into a small auditorium where students walked into their classrooms with the applause from teachers. One student said, I thought I would feel calm when walking on the red carpet in the classroom, but it turned out to be a really exciting and touching moment for me

Although the graduation ceremony could not be held in school theater as usual, teachers had already recorded their best wishes in advance so that they could share it with students via video.

It is you that reminds us there is love, hope and a promising future even during difficulty days said by Principal Mme. Feng. In her speech, she also encouraged students to remember the entrust of Madame Soong Ching Ling and be prepared for greater challenges with wisdom, courage and love.

Principal Mr. Palmer of the international division primary school felt really proud of all the students for their perseverance, resilience and independence during the outbreak of epidemic. He believed that the skills students had to develop during their online program will help them be better learners in the future.

Student representative Eric He from Class 5.6 of international division primary school shared his humorous stories from memory when looking back at the past five years from grade 1 to 5 and thanked all the teachers for their love and care.

Teacher representative Ms. Guo gave her best wishes to all the graduates and encouraged them always to be positive and brave no matter what difficulties they will face in the future.

The winner of 2020 principal’s award is Anita Deng who is excellent both morally and academically with a strong and self-disciplined character and also beloved by both teachers and her classmates. She insisted on taking every online class and completed assignments from school during her hospital stay despite the huge pain and physical challenges that she went through during the epidemic.

Students stood up and took a circle walk in the classroom before bowing to their classmates and teachers and then receiving their certificates. They wanted to express their respect towards teachers, classmates and themselves through this solemn and meticulous ceremony procedure.

Although parents could not witness the graduation ceremony due to the epidemic, they had prepared a video or hand-written letters for their children which made many of them cry with joy.

Some classmates and teachers were unable to come back due to epidemic, but they still managed to join the graduation ceremony through remote video call and shared this special moment with each other.
