The Primary School was a wonderful place to see and be seen last Friday as our school celebrated the end of our “Earth Week” with a Trashion Show, hosted by the Grade 2 students. During the week the students made a display in the lobby where they could bring their used water bottles. By the end of the week we had quite a pile! This showed how much waste can come from one small thing, if you have hundreds of students each doing it.
It wasn’t just piling up garbage, however- the students learned a valuable lesson in environmental awareness by repurposing old materials into something new. Something . . . Trashionable!
The goal of the Trashion Show was to drive home our theme for the week: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. The student gathered plastic bags, spoons, boxes, and any other trash that caught their eye and used them to make some wonderful costumes. After working on them throughout the week, the Grade 2 classes got to strut their stuff on the red carpet and show off their designs in front of the entire school!
And what great designs they were. We had robots, pirates, ninjas, princesses, and lots of other random characters, all mad entirely out of recycled material. It was fun time with a great message. It really showed how much our school and our students care about the environment and leaving the world a better place than they found it. Well done, grade 2s!
