Soong Ching Ling School recently hosted the 2019 EdTA China Young Thespian Festival. The annual event celebrates the performing arts with opportunities for students from all over China to meet, compete, and learn. Nearly 400 students from 49 international schools in 12 provinces travelled to our campus!
Hundreds of students came together for a recent weekend along with many teachers and theatre professionals. There were exciting educational workshops, professional performances, and, at its center, a thrilling opportunity for students from many international schools to compete for the top prizes. This year's competition included playwriting, monologues (single actor performances), duologues (two actor performances), improvisation, and a Tech Challenge in which students designed and built their own stage scenery. Hard-working Soong Ching Ling School students participated in almost every competition category! Our SCLS Tech Challenge team earned the top prize and one actor took home a special award for Best Humor and Spontaneity in Improvisation.
Regardless of where they placed in the competition, every student walked away from the experience with new friends, ideas, and renewed excitement for the arts. Events like these are an important way to move learning beyond the classroom. They emphasize relevant skills such as persistence, collaboration and confidence. More than that, they connect young artists with professionals and like-minded peers from other international schools. It was great to see SCLS students inspiring and being inspired by other young actors from all over China!
Congratulations to the many SCLS students who gave wonderful performances this weekend. Keep up the great work!
