Welcome from the High School Principal
Welcome to SCLS’s new High School! Building on the success of our international Primary and Middle Schools, a 9th grade was launched school year 2017-2018, with the plan to open each successive grade until a full secondary school is in place 2020-2021. Modelled on best practice in international schools and in the American independent school tradition, our high school provides a rigorous college-preparatory academic program alongside a diverse extra-curricular program. The defining hallmark of our approach is opportunity for all students. Opportunity is offered because we take seriously the belief that we are educating a whole child, mind, body and spirit. We recognize that students bring a variety of talents, skills and affinities when they come to school each day and we commit to providing ways for them to be successful.
Students must complete graduation requirements set at a high standard, but along the way they have choices: How far can they go in Math? When should they select an Advanced Placement course? Are they dedicated enough to prepare a portfolio for AP Studio Art? What subject should they choose for 11th grade Science or History? We provide answers to all of these questions and the myriad others that students face as they proceed through the 4 years of High School.
The High School program is taught in English by teachers from the United States, Great Britain, Canada and other English-speaking countries. Over 60% of our teachers hold advanced degrees and bring a wealth of experience and dedication to their daily professional practice. Stop in any classroom and you will see active learning: students engaged in groups, projects, experiments and inquiry, and research online, to name a few. The relationship between students and teachers is key to our success. Our teachers nurture, challenge and encourage independence, all at the same time.
We hope that you will come visit and see for yourself the joy that fills our halls! We look forward to welcoming you soon.
